Waymo One: The Company behind Making Autonomous Vehicles Go Mainstream

When it comes to self-driving cars, the first thought that crosses the mind that it is dangerous because one have no control over the vehicle. Waymo, a subsidiary of Google is working on making this technology go normal by allowing riders of Lyft which is ride sharing company to choose an option of autonomous vehicle while booking the ride. Although, the company has restricted its operations in a small town outside of Phoenix because of less population density which makes it easier for them to test their autonomous vehicles.

According to the CEO John Krafcik, the company is still evaluating the technology by gathering feedbacks from the users. It is an opportunity for them to record the reaction of people interacting with self-driving car and gauge their level of comfort with the technology. Those who volunteer to sit in autonomous vehicles are prescreened and accepted into the Waymo early rider program.

The company is making adequate use of technology provided by Google which is their maps to be integrated into vehicles which makes it much easier for them to test this technology in urban settings. Moreover many analysts believe that this technology still requires a lot of time to get deployed in the big cities.\

While on the other hand, Waymo is restricted by a geo fenced area. It is available to riders whom are travelling within this radius. It is like any other ride hailing service but with a twist of no driver at all. The big ride hailing apps like Uber is also working on making autonomous vehicles because of company’s wide outreach globally.

I believe that this technology can change the whole dynamics of the ways we commute from one place to another. It is the way to limit human errors, when it comes to driving because we are prone to make mistakes. This technology has the potential to change the future of transportation.
